As the winter season approaches, municipalities across Elgin County are reminding residents that overnight parking restrictions are coming back into effect to help keep roads clear for snow removal and emergency access.
In Aylmer, the overnight parking bylaw is in effect from November 15th to April 15th, prohibiting vehicles from parking on roadways overnight to support early-morning snow clearing efforts.
The Township of Malahide has a similar rule: no overnight parking from November 15th through March 15th, to ensure snowplows can safely and efficiently clear streets.
In the Township of Southwold and across the Municipality of West Elgin, overnight parking on roadways is prohibited year-round from 3-5 a.m., particularly enforced during winter months to assist with snow removal.
Central Elgin’s restrictions also take effect on November 15th, banning street parking between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. Residents who need to park overnight may apply for a Residential Overnight Parking Permit, subject to conditions.
And in St. Thomas, overnight parking on city streets is not permitted from December 1st to March 15th, between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. The city also offers Overnight Parking Permits for eligible residents under its Parking and Traffic By-law.
Municipal officials remind drivers that keeping streets clear overnight helps public works crews do their job efficiently and keeps everyone safe during the winter season.
