The new elementary school under construction in Belmont officially has a name: Belmont Meadows Public School.
Thames Valley District School Board announced the results on Tuesday after families in four communities — Belmont, Lucan, and two areas in London — voted on preferred names for new schools currently being built.
The naming options were gathered through community submissions, shortlisted by a selection committee, and then ranked by respondents.
Belmont Meadows Public School earned the highest number of first-place votes from local families.
The school, located along the south side of Seventh Avenue west of Snyders Avenue, was originally expected to open in September 2026. However, the board now says the opening has been delayed to January 2027.
“We’re grateful to these school communities for their thoughtful participation in the school naming process,” said Director of Education, Bill Tucker. “We look forward to opening our doors to students at these new schools in 2026 and 2027.”
The other schools named through the process include Jackson Meadows Public School in southeast London, Clover Public School in Lucan, and Riverbend Public School in west London.
