A 34-year-old St. Thomas man initially charged with aggravated assault after a violent altercation on Aug. 24 has now been charged with manslaughter.
The incident occurred at a northside apartment building where two individuals were pushed down a flight of stairs.
One of them succumbed to his injuries in September.
Through investigation, police determined that a tenant had been exhibiting disruptive behaviour throughout the day. Another tenant requested that the individual cease.
An altercation occurred in the hallway and the accused pushed two individuals down a flight of stairs. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and both victims were transported to hospital.
One victim sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from hospital. The second individual was hospitalized with serious injuries. Sixty-five-year-old Hien Nguyen of St. Thomas, succumbed to his injuries on September 12th.
As a result Duke Wilson faces the upgraded charge of manslaughter. He has been in custody at the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre since the incident in August.
