A 27-year-old St. Thomas man faces several assault charges following an intimate partner violence investigation Wednesday morning on Mitchell Street.
Around 7:15 a.m., officers were called to a residence after reports of an intimate partner violence incident.
The victim had been assaulted and locked out of the residence.
Police attempted to establish contact with the accused, eventually deploying the Critical Incident Response Team, the K-9 unit and crisis negotiators.
The man eventually surrendered without incident.
He was charged with:
- Three counts of assault
- Assault cause bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
- Uttering Threats – Cause bodily harm
He was processed at police headquarters and later released on an undertaking with several conditions and a future court date.
