St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is advising residents to expect longer wait times in the Emergency Department as the hospital continues to experience sustained high patient volumes.
In a social media update posted Thursday morning, hospital officials say several patients who require admission are currently waiting in the Emergency Department for inpatient beds.
That situation is limiting available space in the ED and contributing to delays for those seeking care.
The hospital notes the increased demand is not tied to a single factor, but reflects ongoing pressure across the health-care system. Officials say these pressures are expected to continue through the weekend.
Residents with non-urgent health concerns are being encouraged to consider alternate care options when appropriate, including primary care providers, walk-in clinics, or other community health services. More on those options can be found here.
