The federal government’s Assault-Style Firearm Compensation Program entered its national declaration period on January 19.
Consistent with the approach adopted by many police services across Canada, police services in St. Thomas and Aylmer along with the OPP are not participating in this program and will not be involved in the collection of firearms.
The program is administered federally, and local police service participation is not required.
Police chiefs and associations locally and across the country have been explicit that their resources are best deployed going after real crime and real criminals, not law-abiding gun owners.
