It was a big day for Rodney native Bo Horvat on Thursday!
Not only did he make his Winter Games debut, but he also recorded the first goal of his Olympic career, finishing a play set up by Brad Marchand and Thomas Harley.
Horvat found the back of the net when Canada was up 2-0 in the second period, which went on to defeat Czechia 5-0 in their opening game at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina.
Canada opened the scoring late in the first period on a goal by Macklin Celebrini.
Mark Stone added another in the second before Horvat’s tally.
In the third period, Nathan MacKinnon scored on the power play, and London’s Nick Suzuki recorded the final goal.
It was also a dominant performance by goalie Jordan Binnington, who recorded the shutout victory is his Olympic debut.
Team Canada returns to the ice Friday against Switzerland at 3:10 p.m.
