Aylmer Police are reminding residents to stay vigilant after receiving two fraud complaints in the past week involving PayPal-themed emails.
Police say individuals are receiving messages claiming there is an outstanding balance on their PayPal account. A follow-up email then states money was accidentally deposited into the recipient’s account and requests that the funds be sent back.
Police are urging residents to verify the sender’s email address, be aware of the services they actually use, and never provide personal or banking information to anyone they cannot confirm as legitimate.
They also advise trusting your instincts; if something seems suspicious or too good to be true, it likely is.
The emails in question can be viewed below.
