Job seekers across St. Thomas and Elgin County are being invited to find their perfect match this Friday.
Employment Services Elgin is hosting its Find Your Job Match Open House from 1 to 5 p.m., a smaller, more intimate hiring and networking event designed to connect local job seekers with employers in a less overwhelming setting.
Employment Specialist and Facilitator, Laura Graham, explains that the event will feature eight companies, giving attendees a chance to ask questions and make face-to-face connections.
Unlike the organization’s typical job fairs, this open house is meant to offer a calmer, more personal experience. Graham says large job fairs can feel intimidating, especially when job seekers see long lineups at the door.
In addition to networking opportunities, the event will also feature tours of the facility and a panel of guest speakers discussing local labour market trends as well as employment growth in St. Thomas and Elgin County. Our local Member of Parliment Andrew Lawton is set to speak at 2:30 p.m., followed by Sonia Basu with the St. Thomas-Elgin Local Immigration Partnership at 3 p.m., and Mike Kirkvliet of St. Thomas Economic Development at 3:30 p.m.
The afternoon will also highlight the Better Jobs Ontario program, which provides support for laid-off workers looking to retrain.
The open house runs as a drop-in event, allowing attendees to explore at their own pace, tour the facility, attend speaker sessions, or connect directly with employers.
Hiring companies will include PowerCo, HCR, St. Thomas Police Service, St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, Maxill Inc., Service Canada, City of St. Thomas, and Dogs on 3.
While admission is free, organizers encourage job seekers to register in advance so staff can follow up and provide additional support.
Those details and more can be found here.
The Find Your Job Match Open House is taking place on Friday, February 20th, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Employment Services Elgin, 400 Talbot Street, St. Thomas.
