St. Thomas joined communities across Canada to recognize National Human Trafficking Awareness Day (Feb. 22) with a flag raising and proclamation outside City Hall Monday morning.
The event drew a strong turnout from community organizations and services, reflecting local support for victims and efforts to raise awareness about human trafficking directly in St. Thomas-Elgin and along the 401 corridor.
Natalie Redman, Executive Director of Victim Services Elgin, emphasized the importance of continuing the conversation, highlighting the impact of human trafficking in our own city.
Locally, Victim Services Elgin offers support ranging from safe housing and transportation to counseling and residential addiction treatment for individuals impacted by trafficking.
Redman encourages anyone who may be at risk to reach out to someone they can trust.
Adding that open dialogue and research are ever-so valuable in helping prevent trafficking and protect vulnerable people in our community.
For more information or if you have concerns that someone you know may be at risk, contact Victim Services Elgin at (519) 631-3182.
