The Town of Aylmer is mourning the loss of former Mayor Bob Habkirk, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 83.
Habkirk served the community for many years, first as a councillor from 1986–1988 and 1992–1994, and then as mayor for four terms between 1995 and 2010, totalling 10 years in office.
“I am saddened to hear of the passing of former Mayor Bob Habkirk, noted Current Mayor Jack Couckuyt. He was a dedicated servant to this community. It was an honour to serve alongside him, and I will always remember his tell-it-like-it-is stance and his forthright approach to issues. Bob served for 10 years as Mayor of Aylmer. My condolences go out to his family and all who were close to him.”
In honour of his service, municipal flags will fly at half-mast until sunset on the day of the funeral.
The town extends its condolences to Habkirk’s family and all who worked with him.
