Students looking for a creative outlet this March Break will have the chance to step into the spotlight at the Port Stanley Festival Theatre.
The theatre’s March Break Camp runs from the 16th to 20th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., welcoming campers aged 8 to 11 for a full week of theatre, music, dance, and more.
myFM sat down with Artistic Director Liz Gilroy, who shared that no prior theatre experience is needed for a great week at camp!
Campers won’t just be playing games in a classroom; they’ll perform on stage, explore the rehearsal hall, and even get a behind-the-scenes look at lighting and sound with the theatre’s production team.
Throughout the week, kids will write scenes, create short skits or “commercials,” learn choreography, play improv-based theatre games, take part in creative projects like prop-making and crafts and even try some karaoke.
By Friday morning, Gilroy shares that campers will present a 35-minute showcase for family and friends, featuring things they’ve worked on over the past week.
The final day also includes a pizza lunch, free T-shirts, and a special presentation of “Wings Over the Rainforest,” a live exotic bird show presented in partnership with the Elgin County Library and hosted by the Optimist Club of Port Stanley.
The camp is being led by instructor Keira Scott, who brings a strong background in theatre and experience working with young performers.
Gilroy adds that beyond the fun, the camp offers something increasingly important.
Registration is available through the Port Stanley Festival Theatre website or by calling the box office at 519-782-4353.
