The Polar Plunge is back in St. Thomas on Thursday, March 12th, and local police are once again inviting the community to get “Freezin’ For A Reason” in support of Special Olympics.
The fundraiser, hosted in collaboration with the St. Thomas Police Service, raises funds to support Special Olympics programming across the province, ensuring our local athletes have access to sports and training that’s geared towards their needs.
Inspector Kim Manuel explains further.
For those unfamiliar with the Polar Plunge, participants will making the leap into a tank of freezing cold water at Railway City Brewing, all in support of our local Special Olympians. For Manuel, who has taken part for several years, the cause is personal.
Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in the fundraiser, with Manuel welcoming any friendly competition among teams.
A special thanks was also extended to Railway City Brewing for hosting the event, Yarmouth Metal for providing the plunge tank, and the St. Thomas Fire Department for supplying the water and ensuring safety with on-site divers.
Manuel adds that any community support during the Polar Plunge is encouraged.
Those wishing to register for the St. Thomas event or make a donation in support of the cause can visit soopolarplunge.ca.
Registration begins at 3:30 p.m. on March 12th at Railway City Brewing (130 Edward Street), with Plunges starting at 4.
