Construction is set to get underway on a key stretch of roadway in St. Thomas next week, bringing closures and detours for local drivers.
City officials say Phase 1 of the Alma Street Construction Project will begin Monday, March 23, affecting Alma between Talbot Street and Nolan Street.
Work during this phase is expected to continue through July.
The project will include deep sewer replacement, watermain upgrades, and roadwork aimed at improving long-term infrastructure in the area.
During construction, Alma Street will be closed to through traffic. However, local traffic and emergency access will still be permitted.
Drivers will be directed to follow a detour route using Balaclava Street, Talbot Street, and Manitoba Street.
Looking ahead, Phase 2 of the project, which will extend from Nolan Street to the Highway 3 Expressway, is expected to begin in July and continue through October 2026.
City officials are thanking residents and motorists for their patience as the upgrades are completed.
