High school students in Elgin County interested in a future in policing will soon have a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the profession.
Elgin County OPP is launching a seven-week Youth Citizens Police Academy, running Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m.
The program is open to students in Grade 10 and above, with Provincial Constable Jeff Beaumaster breaking down what applicants can expect.
The remaining sessions will be at the Central Elgin Fire Hall in Port Stanley, located at 5120 Sunset Road, and will feature guest speakers from a wide range of specialized units.
Students will hear from major crime investigators, street crime officers, K9 and Tactics and Rescue Unit members, as well as a Crown Attorney and a fitness appraiser.
Additional sessions will cover forensic investigations, Crime Stoppers, and collision reconstruction, before wrapping up June 11 with a recruitment presentation and certificate ceremony.
Beaumaster explains how you can be a part of it.
Space is limited to roughly 20 to 25 participants.
