If you’re looking for work, or even just thinking about a career change, there’s a great opportunity coming up right here in St. Thomas.
Employment Services Elgin is getting ready to host its annual Job Fair on April 15th at the Joe Thornton Community Centre, running from 1 to 5 p.m.
myFM sat down with Executive Director Jodi Annett-Kish and Job Developer Mark Durbridge to learn more, including the types of employers who will be on hand.
Whether you’re searching for your very first job, re-entering the workforce, or just seeing what’s out there, the fair is designed to be welcoming and approachable. In fact, some people have walked in just to explore and ended up landing long-term employment.
To help people feel prepared, Employment Services Elgin is also offering a job fair workshop ahead of time, with tips on resumes, introductions, and making a strong first impression.
The Drop in Job Fair Prep Workshop is running on April 10th, beginning at 9:30 a.m. And when it comes to the day itself, Annett-Kish says a little preparation can go a long way.
If the idea of walking into a room full of employers feels a bit overwhelming, that’s okay too. Attendees are encouraged to take things at their own pace—whether that means doing a quick lap first or chatting with support staff before diving in.
There are even a few extras to make things easier, including free city transit to and from the event.
Organizers are encouraging people to register online in advance to stay in the loop and get a preview of participating employers.
