Aylmer residents are being urged to stay alert following a recent scam targeting local drivers.
The Aylmer Police Service says a resident recently received a text message from someone claiming to represent the Ministry of Transportation, stating they owed roughly $750 in unpaid parking fines.
The message, which came from an unknown number, urged immediate payment—even though the recipient had no prior notice of any fines.
After contacting the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, the individual was told the message was fraudulent.
Police are reminding residents that government agencies will not request payment through unsolicited text messages.
Anyone receiving similar messages is encouraged to verify the information through official channels and avoid clicking on links or sharing personal or financial details.
