Flooding in Port Stanley February 2022
With rain in the forecast every day this week, the Kettle Creek Conservation Authority has issued a watershed condition statement.
We could see up to 75 mm of rain this week, that’s in addition to the 107 mm received last month, well over the average rainfall for March.
Depending on the intensity of the rainfall this week, small watercourses and drainage systems will fill up quickly and may result in localized flooding in low-lying areas.
“Watershed areas that receive prolonged heavy rain due to thunderstorm activity have a heightened risk for flash and minor localized flooding,” advised Jennifer Dow, Water Resources Supervisor for Kettle Creek Conservation Authority.
Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard.
Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses, ponds and reservoirs.
The flood outlook is in effect until 8:30 a.m. next Monday.
