Attendance is plummeting for high school and elementary school students across the province.
Only 40 per cent of Ontario high schoolers and about 55 per cent of elementary students met attendance standards in 2024-25, and now the government is doing something about it.
The province’s education minister (Paul Calandra) has announced sweeping changes to English school boards that include tying class attendance to final high school marks.
The decision came from teachers asking him to do something about record absenteeism rates following the pandemic.
