Community members in Oneida Nation of the Thames are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves and take part in a community-wide clean-up this Earth Day.
The initiative, taking place April 22 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., invites residents to stop by the Oneida Political Office to pick up supplies before heading out to clean different areas across the community.
Organizers say the event is designed as a collective effort rather than a centralized gathering, with participants encouraged to focus on areas that matter most to them—whether that’s their own yards, local roadways and ditches, or shared green spaces.
Supplies will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and include garbage bags, gloves, birdhouses, garden seeds, and other giveaway items.
As part of the initiative, participants are also invited to document their efforts. Photos taken during the clean-up can be submitted for a chance to win prizes, with a deadline of April 24. Submissions can be sent to Environmental Consultation Coordinator Jenelle Cornelius.
Organizers are reminding participants to take precautions, particularly when working near roadways or uneven terrain, and to be mindful of potentially hazardous materials.
