The YWCA St. Thomas–Elgin is putting a new spin on its signature fundraiser this year, trading summer nights at Wildflower Farms for an evening filled with improv comedy and community connection.
YWCA Communications Manager Melissa Kempf explains that “Spring Into Laughter,” taking place Thursday, May 14th at St. Anne’s Centre in St. Thomas, replaces the organization’s longtime Summer Night Social with a refreshed format designed to bring new energy to the annual fundraising effort.
The event will feature the improv comedy troupe Girls Nite Out, a group celebrating its 20th-anniversary tour across Canada. The lineup includes performers with credits from CBC, HBO, and The Second City, bringing a mix of stand-up, sketch, and improv comedy to the stage.
myFM had the chance to speak with Girls Nite Out producer and performer Jennine Profeta, who shared a little bit of what attendees can expect.
Profeta adds that a key part of the show involves audience interaction, including improv games based on crowd suggestions and a segment where on-stage volunteers are utilized.
Profeta says the show is designed to be inclusive, uplifting, and accessible, offering audiences a chance to disconnect from daily stress and simply enjoy a night of laughter.
She adds that while the troupe is known as “Girls Nite Out,” the event is open to all adults 19 and older. The Spring Into Laughter fundraiser will also include a 50/50 and raffle draw, featuring a grand prize of WestJet flights for two anywhere the airline flies.
Kempf notes that through this event, they aim to raise $25,000 to support YWCA programs across Elgin County.
Tickets are $75 each or $525 for a table of eight and can be purchased through the YWCA St. Thomas–Elgin.
Spring Into Laughter runs May 14th from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at St. Anne’s Centre in St. Thomas.
