St. Thomas police are investigating two separate frauds involving cryptocurrency.
Police say in the first case, a victim reported downloading an app intended to store cryptocurrency.
During the setup process, the individual accidentally accessed a fraudulent website and entered personal credentials and passwords. Moments later, the victim’s cryptocurrency accounts were drained without authorization, resulting in a loss of approximately $10,000.
In a second incident, police say a victim received an unsolicited phone call regarding cryptocurrency investments. After providing account details during the conversation, the victim later discovered they had lost about $3,150.
Both incidents are still under investigation.
