Residents in St. Thomas will have a chance to give their lawns a fresh start this spring, thanks to a new community-focused initiative from the City.
A Spring Community Support Event is set for Saturday, May 9, offering free topsoil and grass seed to help homeowners repair damage caused by winter snowplow operations—something many residents deal with as the snow melts.
The event runs from 8 a.m. to noon at the City Works Yard on Burwell Road, where staff will be on hand to help guide traffic and answer questions. The goal is to make it easier for residents to tackle minor lawn repairs on their own schedule, while also keeping neighbourhoods looking their best heading into the warmer months.
City officials say the program is designed for small-scale fixes, particularly along boulevards and front lawns that may have been disturbed during seasonal maintenance. Materials will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with quantities managed to ensure fair access for everyone.
Residents planning to attend are asked to bring their own containers, along with shovels or tools for loading, as supplies and assistance will be limited. The City also notes that no dumping of yard waste or other materials will be permitted on-site.
While the City continues to address reported property damage through its regular processes, this event offers an added layer of support—giving residents the option to get a head start on repairs.
If the program proves successful, additional dates could be announced later in the season.
