The City of St. Thomas is mourning the loss of former mayor and longtime community leader Cliff Barwick.
In recognition of his decades of public service, city flags have been lowered to half-mast until Tuesday, May 12, following the funeral on Monday, May 11.
Barwick served as mayor of St. Thomas from 1977 to 1978 and again from 2006 to 2010.
He also spent many years as an alderman between 1978 and 2014 and chaired the city’s Finance and Administration Committee, helping guide municipal governance and financial planning.
Outside of politics, Barwick was well known as a teacher at Arthur Voaden Secondary School, a member of the The Elgin Regiment, and a dedicated community volunteer.
“Cliff Barwick dedicated decades of his life to serving St. Thomas,” said Mayor Joe Preston. “His leadership, experience, and unwavering commitment to this community left a lasting mark.”
The City of St. Thomas has extended condolences to Barwick’s family, friends, and all those who knew and worked alongside him.
