Ontario Provincial Police say more than 8,000 charges were laid on OPP-patrolled roads during Canada Road Safety Week, which ran from May 12th to 18th.
The charges included impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and seatbelt offences.
Police say the high number of charges shows many drivers are still ignoring important road safety rules.
According to the OPP, impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and failing to wear a seatbelt remain some of the leading causes of fatal collisions every year.
Officials are reminding drivers that their choices behind the wheel can affect not only their own lives, but the lives of others on the road.
The OPP is encouraging motorists to buckle up, slow down, stay focused, and never drive impaired.
