As we cap off National Pet Month, myFM is shining a spotlight on the people, organizations, and businesses helping care for the furry friends that make our community special with our week-long ‘Animal House’ Feature.
For Cutie Patootie Grooming owner Josslyn Parkhill, caring for animals has always been second nature. From running a small pet-sitting business as a child to opening her own grooming salon in Belmont nearly three years ago, Parkhill says her passion for animals and entrepreneurship naturally came together.
“I’ve always wanted to own my own business,” Parkhill explained. “I’ve always loved animals, and grooming just kind of fell into my lap. I fell in love with it.”
Cutie Patootie Grooming offers dog and cat grooming services ranging from nail trims to full grooming appointments, along with pet treats and toys. The salon also hosts a monthly discounted nail trim night on the first Wednesday of every month to help make pet care more affordable for local families.
What sets the business apart, according to Parkhill, is its one-on-one grooming approach. Rather than rotating multiple pets through kennels, each animal receives individualized attention from start to finish.
“We go really slow, especially for anxious dogs,” she said. “Lots of praise, lots of treats, lots of snuggles. We want them to feel comfortable and cared for.”
Parkhill says grooming is about much more than appearance. Regular appointments can also help identify ticks, skin issues, lumps, or changes in behaviour that owners may not immediately notice at home.
As the business approaches its third anniversary this July, Parkhill says the support from the Belmont and St. Thomas communities has helped Cutie Patootie Grooming grow far beyond what she originally imagined, expanding from a one-person operation into a three-groomer salon.
The business also stays active in the community through local sports sponsorships, parades, and participation in events throughout the year.
You can keep up with Cutie Patootie Grooming through social media, with bookings available at cutiepatootiegrooming.ca.
