A 40-year-old St. Thomas resident is facing animal cruelty charges following an investigation into reports of a dog being assaulted on the city’s south side.
According to the St. Thomas Police Service, officers responded after multiple witnesses reported seeing an individual assaulting a dog. Witnesses were able to provide information to police, helping officers locate and arrest the accused.
Police say Animal Welfare Services also attended the scene and immediately transported the dog to a veterinarian for assessment.
During the investigation, police say officers also obtained information related to a similar incident involving the same individual.
As a result, the accused has been charged with two counts of cruelty to animals causing unnecessary pain, suffering, or injury, along with one count of obstructing a peace officer.
