The Ontario Provincial Police is reminding passengers about the dangers of improper seating positions, warning that what may seem comfortable at the time can lead to devastating consequences in a crash.
That was West Region OPP Sergeant Ed Sanchuk, who noted that airbags deploy from dashboards in milliseconds and can inflate at speeds between 160 and 320 kilometres per hour.
And that’s the last place you want your feet to be if an airbag deploys.
The OPP is encouraging everyone in a vehicle to sit upright, wear their seatbelt correctly, keep both feet on the floor, and follow safe seating practices every time they travel.
Sanchuk stressed that a moment of comfort is not worth the risk of a lifetime of consequences.
