It’s an investment by the province that will unlock new housing opportunities in Southwold Township.
At a ceremony Tuesday, Southwold Mayor Grant Jones stressed that the $28 million in funding for the new Shedden Wastewater Treatment Plant will trigger significant residential development opportunities in both that community and down the road in Fingal.
Across Union Road, DHP Homes’ Shedden Meadows subdivision is beginning to take shape, in anticipation of the wastewater treatment plant opening next spring.
Things will move quickly, advised Jones, with several hundred homes to be completed in short order.
Those 500 units will consist of a variety of home styles and townhouses for all age and financial demographics.
In total, as many as 2,400 housing units are planned in the Shedden-Fingal corridor.
Jones praised the province’s historic investment in critical infrastructure that will kickstart significant development in the township.
Rob Flack, Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing pointed out that with thousands of new jobs on the horizon when PowerCo and Vianode open their new operations in St. Thomas, “The province is creating the environment to invite more people to come and live and raise their families. And Southwold Township is no exception.”
Jones concurred, “I look forward to all the ways that the development of Shedden and Fingal contributes to making Southwold a great place to live and invest in the years to come.”
