A Father’s Day tradition spanning more than a quarter-century returns to Pinafore Park this weekend under new leadership, but with the same community spirit that has made it a local favourite.
The Father’s Day Car Show takes place Sunday, June 21, at Pinafore Park, hosted by the Optimist Club of St. Thomas, Talbot Trail Optimist Club, Optimist Club of Talbotville, and Sunshine Optimist Club.
Earlier this year, the St. Thomas Lions Club announced it was passing the torch after organizing the event for 26 years. The four Optimist Clubs have since joined forces to ensure the annual show continues, while supporting youth-focused initiatives throughout the community.
The family-friendly event will feature classic and specialty vehicles, 50s and 60s music, food trucks, a Crafter’s Alley, children’s entertainment, and the popular 50/50 draw.
Show car registration begins at 7 a.m., with gates opening at the same time. Breakfast will be available through the Optimist food trailer from 7 to 10 a.m., followed by lunch service from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Vehicles will be judged by local business leaders, with cash awards presented in categories including Most Photogenic, Oldest Vehicle, Nicest Restoration, Best Rat Rod, Best in Show, and Furthest Distance Travelled.
Spectator admission is by donation, while show vehicles can be registered for $10 at the gate.
Organizers say the event is a great way for families to celebrate Father’s Day together while supporting programs and initiatives that benefit local youth.
The Father’s Day Car Show runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Sunday at Pinafore Park.
