Teachers and students across St. Thomas-Elgin will soon have access to a wider range of digital learning resources through a new provincewide investment announced by the Ontario government.
The province says it is investing $60 million to provide all publicly funded school boards with access to Nelson Education’s Edwin platform beginning in September.
The online resource, which is already used in some Ontario school boards, offers curriculum-aligned materials for Grades 1 through 12 in both English and French.
According to the Ministry of Education, the platform will give teachers access to lesson plans, activities, videos, presentations, and assessment tools, while helping students track their learning progress and identify areas where they may need additional support.
Teachers will be able to access resources organized by subject and grade level, with the flexibility to use ready-made lesson plans or customize materials to meet the needs of their students. Resources can also be used in a variety of formats, including printed activities and interactive classroom lessons.
The province notes teachers will continue to have the ability to use supplementary educational materials approved by their local school boards.
As part of the announcement, Ontario is also introducing new mandatory assessment standards for Grades 9 to 12. Officials say the changes are designed to create greater consistency in grading practices and provide clearer guidelines for calculating final marks across secondary school courses.
The new digital learning resources and updated assessment standards are scheduled to be in place for the 2026-27 school year.
