With the last day of school arriving Thursday, June 25th, for most area students, the St. Thomas Police Service is reminding residents that the start of summer brings a major shift in routines and a renewed need for vigilance on local roads.
As students trade classrooms for parks, playgrounds, and neighbourhood hangouts, Corporate Communications Coordinator Samantha Wakefield says drivers should expect to see more children and teens out and about throughout the day.
The service is also encouraging parents to use the beginning of summer break as an opportunity to review basic safety habits with their children.
Wakefield says the message from police is simple: enjoy the summer break, but keep safety top of mind.
A little extra patience and awareness from everyone can go a long way toward ensuring a safe and enjoyable summer for the entire community.
