A 31-year-old St. Thomas woman is facing multiple charges after police responded to a dangerous driving complaint on the city’s north side Tuesday evening.
According to the St. Thomas Police Service, officers were called just after 7 p.m. following reports of a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed through a residential neighbourhood.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle by activating their emergency lights and sirens, but police say the driver continued travelling at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle eventually turned onto a dead-end road and came to a stop.
When officers attempted to speak with the driver, police allege the woman became combative and physically assaulted officers.
As a result, the 31-year-old was charged with assaulting a peace officer, failing to stop for police, two counts of disobeying a stop sign, failing to surrender a driver’s licence and failing to surrender an insurance card.
She was later released from police headquarters on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
