If you’re planning a trip to Port Stanley for the August long weekend, expect to see a strong police presence.
Elgin OPP say officers were out in full force over the July 25 and 26 weekend, conducting R.I.D.E. programs, patrolling the downtown core and beaches, and engaging with residents and visitors.
During the two-day enforcement effort, officers checked approximately 300 vehicles, issued 23 tickets and handed out 19 warnings for various offences.
With one of the busier weekends of the summer just days away and the annual CALIPSO Festival taking over the village, motorists and beachgoers can expect similar enforcement as thousands are expected to flock to the lakeside community.
Police are reminding drivers to make safe choices behind the wheel by planning ahead, obeying speed limits, avoiding distractions and never driving impaired.
