Drivers in St. Thomas will need to plan for delays next week as a section of Burwell Road closes for construction related to the Highway 3 expansion.
The City of St. Thomas says Burwell Road will be closed from August 17 to 23 while the Ministry of Transportation completes advanced utility crossing work for the St. Thomas Expressway (Highway 3) project.
The closure will affect Burwell between South Edgeware Road and Edward Street, with local traffic permitted only. A full closure will also be in place near the MTO bridge, from approximately 98 metres south of Harwill Road to 190 metres south of Harwill Road, meaning there will be no through traffic or emergency access across the bridge during the work.
A signed detour will direct motorists along Edward Street, First Avenue, South Edgeware Road and Burwell Road.
The city says local access to businesses will be maintained throughout the project, but vehicles will not be able to cross the MTO bridge until the work is complete.
