The community will once again have the chance to make a big difference with a single grocery bag as the myFM and Space Snacks & Galactic Sodas All Hands on Deck Food Drive returns on Thursday, August 20th.
Now in its eighth year, the annual event will see the myFM team and our community partners collecting donations for the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank, the Corner Cupboard in Aylmer and the Port Stanley & Area Community Food Bank, helping replenish shelves as families prepare for the busy back-to-school season.
For the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank, the need has never been greater. Manager of Operations Sarah Coleman says demand continues to climb, with the organization serving a record number of families and children this summer while its Summer Top-Up Program continues to grow.
Coleman says the annual food drive comes at a critical time, helping ensure families have access to essentials as children head back to the classroom.
But she adds the event is about more than filling shelves—it’s a chance for the community to come together and show that no one has to face food insecurity alone.
Coleman says the food bank is especially in need of kid-friendly lunch items such as granola bars, applesauce cups, juice boxes, and cereal, along with pantry staples like peanut butter, canned meat, oatmeal, and Kraft Dinner. Shopping lists highlighting each food bank’s greatest needs will also be available on-site.
The myFM and Space Snacks & Galactic Sodas All Hands on Deck Food Drive runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Real Canadian Superstore in St. Thomas, Miller’s Your Independent Grocer in Aylmer, and Foodland in Port Stanley.
