A St. Thomas business is putting its support behind local families by stepping up as the title sponsor of this year’s myFM All Hands on Deck Food Drive.
Space Snacks & Galactic Sodas, located at 571 Talbot Street, has been serving up a unique mix of drinks, food, and treats since opening its St. Thomas location last November.
Co-owner Jen Cheeseman says the business started about four years ago with freeze-dried candy, before expanding into markets.
The St. Thomas location has since grown into the cafe they were hoping for, also offering focaccia sandwiches, Shaw’s Ice Cream, and “dirty” Alanis.
For those who haven’t visited Space Snacks & Galactic Sodas yet, Cheeseman says there’s plenty to discover. The business also offers sugar-free options for many of its drinks and online ordering through its website and delivery apps.
But for Cheeseman, becoming the title sponsor of the food drive is about more than promoting the business; it’s about giving back to a community the family has quickly grown to love.
The eighth annual All Hands on Deck Food Drive takes place Thursday, August 20, with donations supporting the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank, the Corner Cupboard in Aylmer, and Port Stanley & Area Community Food Bank.
Cheeseman added that the business is seeing firsthand how much the community means to its customers, and sponsoring the food drive is one way to help make sure local families have access to what they need.
The All Hands on Deck Food Drive runs Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Real Canadian Superstore in St. Thomas, Miller’s Your Independent Grocer in Aylmer and Foodland in Port Stanley.
Donations of kid-friendly lunch items like granola bars, applesauce cups, juice boxes, and cereal, as well as pantry staples including peanut butter, canned meat, oatmeal, and Kraft Dinner, are especially needed.
