With the new school year just around the corner, the City of St. Thomas is reminding families to review their routes and take note of both new and existing crossing guard locations.
Two new crossing guard locations have been added in the city this year, while hours have also been adjusted at several existing locations.
The new locations are Raven Avenue and Peach Tree Boulevard, where crossing guards will be on duty from 8:30 to 9:10 a.m. and 3:10 to 3:50 p.m.
The other new location is Balaclava Street and Edward Street, with coverage from 8:25 to 9:05 a.m. and 3:15 to 3:55 p.m.
Crossing guard hours at Forest Avenue and Park Avenue will be 8:30 to 9:10 a.m. and 3:20 to 4 p.m.
At South Edgeware Road and Dalewood Road, guards will be present from 8:25 to 9:05 a.m. and 3:10 to 3:50 p.m.
And at Fairview Avenue and Forest Avenue, crossing guard coverage will run from 8:20 to 9 a.m. and 3:20 to 4 p.m.
The City is encouraging parents and caregivers to review their child’s route before the first day of school and identify the safest places to cross.
Drivers are also being reminded to slow down, stay alert, and watch for increased pedestrian activity as students return to school.
