As students return to class next week, Ontario Provincial Police are reminding parents to be cautious about what they share online.
Back-to-school photos may be a tradition, but oversharing can put children at risk. Police advise avoiding details such as school names, logos, or signs in the background, as well as after-school activities, team affiliations, or personal information like a child’s name, age, or grade.
Even small details, like bus numbers or street names, can reveal more than intended. OPP warns that even on private accounts, images can still be saved, shared, or copied.
Parents are encouraged to continue capturing those first-day-of-school memories, but to do so in ways that protect their child’s privacy and safety.
