Hockey fans in St. Thomas are being invited to get the Stars game a little early this Friday.
The Columbus Club of St. Thomas has teamed up with the St. Thomas and District Chamber of Commerce and 94.1 myFM to host the first-ever Tailgate Party ahead of the Stars’ Home Opener, with a goal of bringing the community together and adding some extra fun to an already jam-packed night.
Gerry Holden with the Columbus Club says the event came together rather quickly after being approached by the Chamber and myFM’s Dave Thomson.
The party runs from 4 to 7 p.m. outside the Columbus Club at 265 Wellington Street, with food, music, games and several chances to take home some prizes.
One of the highlights will be the Hockey Skills Challenge, with proceeds going back to the St. Thomas Stars.
There will also be two special 50/50 draws, the Columbus Club’s regular Friday meat draw, giveaways throughout the evening, and an appearance by the Stars mascot.
The event is completely free to attend and open to everyone, including families. Holden encourages people to arrive early, enjoy the tailgate and then make their way into the arena for the game.
And there will be a special send-off for fans heading into the home opener, with a local piper expected to lead the crowd from the tailgate party into the arena.
The Tailgate Party runs Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Columbus Club of St. Thomas, ahead of the Stars’ home opener at 7:30.
You are reminded that it is also myFM Fill the Rink Night, with free tickets to the game available while supplies last. Please note that anyone arriving without a ticket will have to pay regular admission at the door.
