St. Thomas is officially recognizing September as Big Brothers Big Sisters Month.
A flag-raising ceremony was held at City Hall Monday morning, with Mayor Joe Preston on hand to read the official proclamation celebrating the impact of mentorship in the community.
The team at Big Brothers Big Sisters St. Thomas-Elgin was joined by members of city council and the St. Thomas Police Service for the ceremony.
As part of the month-long recognition, the Jumbo Monument will be illuminated in teal from September 14th to 20th.
Executive Director Carolyn Johnson took some time to share a few words and stressed that the need for volunteers is greater than ever.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Month is a chance to celebrate the volunteers, staff, supporters, and young people who make meaningful mentoring relationships possible, helping youth build confidence, feel supported, and create brighter futures.
