Ontario is introducing standardized entry-level training for commercial truck drivers following concerns raised in a report from the provincial auditor general.
The new curriculum will become mandatory next year for organizations that provide truck driver training.
Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria says the program is expected to include topics such as fatigue management, rural and remote driving, human trafficking awareness and mandatory air brake training.
Auditor General Shelley Spence found some career colleges were cutting corners on training hours and skills, while oversight from two provincial ministries was limited.
