Local organizations working to protect Lake Erie could have a new opportunity to fund projects close to home.
Ontario is investing up to $1.8 million through the fourth round of its Great Lakes Local Action Fund, supporting community-led projects across the province.
That includes eligible projects along Lake Erie and its connected rivers and waterways. Local groups could seek funding for work that improves water quality, restores wetlands and wildlife habitat, tackles pollution or helps ecosystems better handle environmental pressures.
Environment Minister Todd McCarthy said the Great Lakes contain about 20 per cent of the world’s fresh water and support wildlife, jobs and industries including agriculture, tourism and power generation.
Since 2021, Ontario has committed $5.5 million to 107 projects through the fund. Those projects have helped restore habitat, improve water quality and protect waterways connected to the Great Lakes.
Applications for the 2026-27 program are now open.
Local organizations interested in putting forward an eligible Lake Erie-area project have until Nov. 6 to apply for funding.
