PowerCo Canada has teamed up with Indspire to launch an education award that supports Indigenous students in southwestern Ontario.
PowerCo is contributing $75,000, to be matched by the federal government. In total there are 22 education awards valued at $6,000 each.
Indspire is an Indigenous national charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Metis individuals.
Erin Chreptyk, Senior Indigenous Affiars Specialist with PowerCo Canada explains that the award is intended to help reduce financial barriers for Indigenous students pursuing post-secondary education.
Indigenous students from First Nations communities in southwestern Ontario are eligible to apply.
Jocelyn W. Formsma, Indspire President and CEO, notes that STEM-related education can create pathways to high-value opportunities in growing sectors, but Indigenous students continue to face barriers in pursuing post-secondary education.”
