At Monday’s city council meeting, members were in receipt of a proposed new noise control bylaw.
Key proposed changes include:
- clearer permitted times for construction, domestic tools and waste collection;
- stronger enforcement measures and updated fines;
- a simplified approach that eliminates specialized noise-measuring equipment;
- greater flexibility for special events and exemptions;
- and allowing construction to begin one hour earlier during heat warnings to support worker safety
The new bylaw will replace the city’s existing 2020 noise bylaw and balance neighbourhood well-being with community and economic activity.
