Harvest season may be winding down, but Elgin County drivers are being reminded that farm equipment is still a common sight on local roads.
The OPP is asking motorists to slow down and be patient when approaching tractors, combines, and other farm machinery.
Large equipment often travels much slower than regular traffic and can sometimes be wider than a single lane. Farm vehicles may also make frequent turns into fields and laneways, so drivers should leave plenty of space and avoid following too closely.
The reminder is especially important along busy agricultural routes including Highways 3, 24 and 59, where farm equipment regularly shares the road with other vehicles.
Drivers should only pass when it is legal, and they have a clear view of the road ahead. Motorists should also watch for machinery preparing to turn, even if it appears there may be room to pass.
With local farmers working to finish another busy harvest, the OPP says a little patience behind the wheel can help prevent collisions.
Sharing county roads safely helps make sure farmers and motorists alike get home safely.
