Tomorrow is the final day to help make sure people across St. Thomas and Elgin County have the warm clothing they need for winter.
As myFM first shared in early September, the YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin Community Coat Drive has been collecting new and gently used winter coats and seasonal accessories for children, youth and adults.
The drive is a partnership between the YWCA, 94.1 myFM, Hometown St. Thomas Magazine and Royal Containers Ltd., with more than a dozen local businesses and organizations also serving as donation drop-off locations.
Last year, 578 people accessed the coat drive, with 667 coats and hundreds of winter accessories distributed to community members.
This year, the goal is to collect 800 coats and winter items, and with the collection wrapping up tomorrow, October 2, there is still an opportunity for residents to help.
If you’ve been sorting through closets as the seasons change, organizers are encouraging you to take a look at winter clothing that may no longer fit your family but could help someone else stay warm this winter.
Donations of new and gently used winter coats and seasonal accessories can be dropped off at the YWCA’s main office at 16 Mary Street West, the 94.1 myFM studio at 300 Talbot Street, or at participating community partner locations.
All donated items will be sorted and distributed during the YWCA’s Together for Warmth Coat Selection Days on October 23 and 24.
