A 40-year-old London resident is in custody following an incident Thursday afternoon at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.
A Code Silver – person with a weapon – was declared around 3:30 p.m., and St. Thomas Police responded.
According to police, they were investigating a threat targeted at a hospital employee.
As a precaution, the hospital was placed on active hold, and all public entrances were secured.
The Code Silver was lifted around 6 p.m., although hospital entry was limited to the north entrance beside the Emergency Department.
The accused has been charged with two counts of uttering threats to cause death, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of administering a noxious thing with intent to endanger life and one count of mischief – destroys or damages property.
This individual is being held in police custody for a morning court appearance.
A statement this morning (Friday) from STEGH assures, “The hospital is open, operating as normal, and remains a safe place to receive care.”
