The St. Thomas Police Service has reached 20,000 calls for service earlier than ever before, logging the milestone on Tuesday.
This is more than 18 days earlier than last year, when the same milestone was reached on October 31.
It demonstrates the continued rise in demand for police services across the city.
In a media release, the police service notes that the impact of rising call volumes extends beyond the initial police response.
Many incidents require extensive investigation, follow-up, court preparation and administrative and disclosure processing, placing added pressure across the organization, including Communications, Frontline Patrol, Investigative Units, the Business Office, Court Services and Information Technology.
