Bursts of fall air have been felt across St. Thomas-Elgin this week, a chilly reminder that winter is just around the corner.
With colder weather on the way, the YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin is preparing to help residents stay warm through its annual Community Coat Drive giveaway.
The Together for Warmth Coat Selection Days take place Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the YWCA, located at 16 Mary Street West in St. Thomas. Winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and socks will be available for children, youth, and adults, while supplies last.
Jackie Anger, Manager of Strategy and Operations with the YWCA St. Thomas-Elgin, explains how the process will work for anyone hoping to stop by.
Adding that all residents across St. Thomas and Elgin County are welcome to take part.
Those attending are asked to enter through the side door of the gym. Last year, 578 people accessed the program, receiving 667 coats and hundreds of winter accessories at no cost.
This year’s coat drive is a partnership between the YWCA, 94.1 myFM, Hometown St. Thomas Magazine, and Royal Containers Ltd., with support from over a dozen local businesses and organizations.
